Advice if you're thinking of buying a Telescope.
If you're studying Astronomy chances are you have or are thinking of buying a telescope (a telescope is NOT required for S282!). I bought a telescope in November 2002, but not before carrying out quite a lot of research into the different types of telescopes available. I also bought a pair of binoculars first, which I used for several months before getting a telescope, and can say that these have been very useful and are still extremely useful even though I now have a telescope. I usually have both pieces of equipment out when observing!
Informative book:
Stargazing with a telescope, by Robin Scagell.
This contains loads of information about the different kinds of telescopes available and the factors involved in choosing a telescope. It also gives valuable information about how to observe the night sky and useful explanations about declination, right ascension and other astronomical jargon. I strongly recommend this excellent, inexpensive book for beginners.
