[little ghost nebula]

S282

Astronomy

I've sadly had to drop out of this course (end July 2003) as I was too pushed for time doing 90 points this year. However I've added various links for anyone interested in some of the topics we've studied so far.

NB: Yes, this course does require a DVD drive, a CD-ROM drive will not suffice.

If you've only done S194 prior to this course, you will find this a big jump up. In my opinion, you need to have done at least MST121 to cope with the maths. S103 helps because it introduces you to basic atomic physics and concepts that are further developed in this course. You'll need to brush up your basic physics knowledge. There is a lot of new terminology to get to grips with and plenty of equations scattered throughout the course.

Please note that I have used text from the S282 course website to give an idea of the learning outcomes for each chapter. I have indicated this clearly in the chapter descriptions that follow. Be aware that the course may change in future years, in fact, as Astronomy is evolving so quickly, this is almost certain.

Follow the links to the section you're interested in.
