Revision

There are good resources available for revision:

  • Get the past papers! As many as you can, because the more practice you have the better you'll be prepared.
  • Practice writing answers BY HAND as that's what you'll have to do in the exam. You don't want your writing finger/speed to slow you down in there, you'll have a lot of writing to do.
  • Confer with students in the First Class MT262 Revision conference.
  • Practice doing a full-length 3 hour exam at home, if you can. This will help you to see how you're doing for timing the questions.

What to take into the exam

  • Your MT262 Handbook. You cannot annotate it with any writing at all, only make any corrections notified by the course team (there were a couple of errors in it in 2002). However, you CAN use a highlighter or underline anything you think is important.
  • Extra pens, pencils. A ruler.
  • No calculator allowed!!
  • Remember to take in something to eat and a drink. The extra sugar burst will help your brain if you're flagging. However, make sure it is not "noisy" food - you don't want to disturb everyone else!
  • Your watch in case you can't see the clock. But remember to switch off any alarms!

In the exam

  • Take a few deep breaths and settle yourself. Make sure your desk is stable, especially important if you have a morning exam. By the afternoon, someone else has probably put paper under the legs!
  • Be sure to fill in the desk record with your student number and exam number.
  • Read the questions carefully!
  • Allow plenty of space in the answer book to write out your answers. Perhaps leave a line between each line of code, in case you have to add in another line.
  • And remember - Don't panic! You'll survive. Just do your best. If it's a difficult paper remember everyone else will be finding it difficult too.
  • Try to allow time at the end to read through your answers as you may spot errors made earlier.
